Welcome to the Registration Web Site for the 2008 EPA/AAAS Graduate Fellowship Program Expo. This year, the National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) is honored to have a committed Fellowship Advisory Committee of current fellows that works closely with NCER’s Conference Planning Committee team.  The schedule format for the 2008 EPA/AAAS Graduate Fellowship Program Expo will be slightly different from the past.  This year it is being held as a joint effort between the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the EPA Science Forum.  The event at AAAS will be held on May 19, 2008, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  On May 20–22, 2008, the EPA Science Forum will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building, Washington, DC.  The EPA STAR Graduate Fellows also are encouraged to participate in the Science Forum Technology Expo as well as other Forum activities being offered at the Ronald Reagan Building.

Please click here to register for the 2008 EPA/AAAS Graduate Fellowship Program Expo no later than March 21, 2008.  You may wish to read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) before registering by clicking on the word “FAQ” listed at the top of this Web page.

Registration for the EPA Science Forum:
To register for the EPA Science Forum, go to: http://www.epa.gov/scienceforum/registration.htm.

Fellows are highly encouraged to attend the AAAS event, and also should attend at least 1 day of the Science Forum.  Fellows may lodge with family, friends, or at one of the nearby hotels.  A list of hotels is provided for your convenience.

In addition, NCER has developed a “Fellow Forum” Web Site.  This Forum will allow fellows to stay abreast of the fellowship program’s administrative requirements and activities.  Fellows also will be able to submit their comments, communicate with other fellows about logistics, and obtain additional details about events pertaining to the 2008 EPA/AAAS Graduate Fellowship Program Expo.

To access the Fellow Forum Web Site, you will need to use the NCER user IDs and passwords sent to you in the initial invite e-mail. If you have questions, please contact Myles Morse at: morse.myles@epamail.epa.gov and he will send you your user IDs and passwords.

On the “Fellow Forum” Web Site, click on the word “Registration” at the side of the page and two separate registration Web site links will appear.  In the folder entitled “2008 EPA/AAAS Graduate Fellowship Program Expo,” you will see the following:

  • A link to the registration form to register for the AAAS event on May 19, 2008.  Please indicate on the registration form whether you are a Fellow, Non-Fellow, or EPA Staff Member.
  • A link to the registration form for the Science Forum Call for Posters, which can be viewed at:  http://www.epa.gov/ncer/fellow/forum.  Within the Fellow Forum there also will be a link for fellows who are interested in sharing a hotel room.  In addition, there will be a list of fellowship discipline categories to help fellows identify topics of interest for the working luncheon on May 19, 2008.

There will be onsite registration for last-minute expo participants from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008.  However, participants are encouraged to pre-register so that NCER can accurately obtain an estimate of the number of expo attendees.

NCER’s staff members, Gladys Cobbs-Green, Ted Just, and Emma Roach, are the lead NCER organizers for this important event and will be happy to answer any of your questions.  Please contact them via e-mail at: cobbs-green.gladys@epa.gov, just.ted@epa.gov, and roach.emma@epa.gov.

In 2009, NCER will return to its former conference format.  Fellow attendance and participation will be mandatory.  The traditional setting and structure of the conference will remain the same as in previous years.  The conference is scheduled for September 27–30, 2009.  More information about the 2009 conference will be posted in the spring of 2008.
