AGENDA

print version (PDF)
Goal Share research findings on the value and limitations of environmental public health indicators (EPHI) for defining environmental problems at the community scale and measuring the success of intervention strategies and remediation efforts.  Illustrate how EPHI serve as tools for informing public policy.
Outcomes
  1. Assessment of the state-of-the-science and identification of key research data gaps
  2. Shared knowledge about EPA’s EPHI grants:
    1. Linking public health indicators with health outcomes
    2. Identifying innovative methodologies
    3. Impacting policy
  3. Enhanced ability to translate and communicate research findings effectively to the general public, policy makers and other key stakeholders, and to have a positive impact on community public health and policy

  • Roundtable Discussion Topics
    • Based on your experience, what are the emerging research areas/data gaps linking EPHI with health outcomes?
    • How could EPHI assist in evaluating whether a program or policy has achieved the intended outcome(s)?
    • Could inequality indicators be used as part of your research (e.g., the Gini index, concentration index, dissimilarity index, Atkinson index)? How could these indicators be used in addressing environmental inequalities and environmental health outcomes?
    • Could Eco and Health Indicators be used for whole health assessments?

11:50 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Wrap-Up/Adjourn Public Session
