May 27 - 28, 2009
EPA's National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) and EPA Region 10 are partnering to hold a three-tiered meeting to share information about grant research on the ecosystem impacts of climate change. The grants are supported by EPA's Global Change Research Program.
- Tier one will review the results of five global ecosystem grants that investigated the effects of climate change and other stressors on coral reef and tidal marsh structure and function as well as the consequences for the flow of ecosystem services provided by these systems.
- Tier two will review the progress of seven global ecosystem grants that seek to understand how and when nonlinear ecological changes, in response to climate change and variability, affect ecological systems and their associated services. The grants focus on linked terrestrial and aquatic systems. The Department of Energy and EPA were partners in soliciting these grants.
- Tier three will serve as the kickoff meeting for six new global ecosystem grants that will study the synergistic effects of climate change, land use, and invasive species and explore possible management scenarios surrounding these issues. The solicitation for these grants was advertised in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
